THE BARBARA HEPWORTH BUILDING
THE NEW HOME FOR ART, DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD
Due to open in 2019, the Barbara Hepworth Building is experimental and forward thinking in design and function.
It offers huge potential to act as a catalyst for future connectivity, setting the scene for creativity and multidisciplinary learning. The design draws on inspiration from all aspects of art, design and architecture with contemporary, confident, dynamic and sculptural forms representing outward looking intentions. A contemporary and symbolic laser cut sculptural veil surrounds the building, with a flexible and adaptable internal space with technology at its heart.
The £30million building will be the new home for the study of art, design and architecture at the University. Named the Barbara Hepworth Building - after the famous West Yorkshire-born sculptor - its main frontage overlooks the picturesque Huddersfield Narrow Canal that runs through the heart of the University's campus.
