VIEWING PLEASURE AND BEING A SHOWGIRL LAUNCH

TUESDAY 19 JUNE - TIME TBC - HERITAGE QUAY

M.jpg

Join us at Heritage Quay for the launch of Viewing Pleasure and Being a Showgirl: How Do I Look?

The book Viewing Pleasure and Being a Showgirl: How Do I Look? contextualises the contemporary showgirl experience, drawing out their relevance for feminist debate. Drawing on interviews with a breadth of different showgirls, from shows in Paris, Las Vegas, Berlin, and Los Angeles, as well as Contemporary Art Lecturer, Alison J. Carr's own artworks and those by other contemporary and historical artists, this book examines the experiences of showgirls and those who watch them, to challenge the narrowness of representations and discussions around what has been termed ‘sexualisation’ and ‘the gaze’..

This event will bring together artists and researchers who will respond to the book, helping to broaden the conceptual and critical location of the book.

Registration coming soon

Drivers for climate change workshops

FRIDAY 22 JUNE - TIME TBC - LOCATION TBC

Postgraduate research students from the School of Art, Design and Architecture seek to stage a series of workshops which bring together a variety of different disciplines and practices, with the aim of exploring a broad environmental dilemma facing us in the twenty-first century: CLIMATE CHANGE.

The proposed group workshops invite delegates to create collaborative questions and solutions by testing different approaches to problem-solving around a shared issue. This event promotes the idea that ‘thinking together’ has the potential to deepen and enrich our understanding of the nature of differing perspectives. How might group working deploy and invent new methodologies or ways of approaching an issue?
